A commodity survey carried by Radio Emmanuel indicates that maize flour bag of 50 kilograms sells between 180 and 200 SSP compared to 250 in July.A 20 litre jerry can of cooking oil sells at 115 SSP compared to 180 SSP in July and a kilo of onion sells at 10 SSP compared to 12 SSP, three months ago.
Prices of Beans, Okra, tomatoes and cabbages among others have all reduced.
Mabior Deng Mabior, the Second Vice Chairman of Eastern Equatoria state Chamber of Commerce said the drop in the market prices is due to crop harvest and available dollars in the black market.
Mabior is expecting prices to continue reducing after the opening of the border between South Sudan and Sudan saying there would be a competition of goods being imported from East Africa and Sudan only if taxes were fair.
Mabior advised South Sudanese business community not to give up trading due to hard conditions saying the situation may improve in the future.
He said the future of commerce in the country depends on the nationals in the business sector.
