A girl-student blamed parents, especially mothers, for overloading daughters with domestic chores affecting performance at school.
The Head of Girls Education Movement, Rose Leyong, told the participants at the International Day of the Girl Child commemoration in Juba that mothers give girls money to buy food after lessons and it distracts their concentration in classes.She pointed out that mothers do not give daughters enough time to study due to domestic work.
Ms Leyong also blamed parents for not sending children to school because they do not value education and force children as young as 13 to get married.
The International Day of Girl Child Education was celebrated at Juba Technical Secondary School on Thursday.
The event brought together many pupils, national and state government and NGO officials.
