The President of the Republic is in Kampala to participate in Uganda’s Independence Golden Jubilee.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit left Juba on Monday accompanied by a number of national ministers.Uganda became independent on October 9, 1962 and the Buganda king Frederick Edward Mutesa II was elected the first president.
The official commemoration under the theme “Uganda at 50 (1962-2012)” takes place at the National Celebrations Uhuru Grounds, in Kololo √ɬê Kampala.
In Juba, the Ugandan community celebrates the 50th birthday of their nation at Nyakuron Cultural Centre.
President Kiir is also expected to participate in the opening of Bujagali hydro-power dam in Jinja, near Kampala.
