Residents of Gudele 2, also known as Kuburi Habuba, in Juba, deplored lack of health and education facilities, clean water and poor hygiene in the area due to many open-air slaughter places.

The President of Gudele 2 Popular Committee, Francis Jackson Rock, told CRN that open-air slaughter places next to the houses produce strong bad smell.

He added that animal wastes were taken into the stream by rain polluting the only source of drinking water for poor families.

Mr Jackson decried that there are only two private and expensive schools in the area and residents Ð mainly returnees Ð have no jobs and no money.

Mr Jackson explained that the residents of Gudele 2 formed the popular committee to be their eyes and voice.

The local leader called on the residents of Gudele 2 to attend a public consultative meeting on Saturday, October 6, about the results of a meeting with Juba County Commissioner, Stephen Wani.

He said the commissioner directed the Northern Bari Payam Director to visit the area and write a report on the situation.

Mr Jackson said he expected Commissioner Wani to visit Gudele 2 area after the payam director reported.
