The Kuku Community and well-wishers in Yei River County gathered over 3.600 Sudanese pounds in cash and pledges on Sunday during a fundraising function to finish the Romogi Cathedral in Kajo Keji diocese.
The function that was held at a hotel in Yei presided by the African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministry country director, Rev. Manasse Kenyi, Spirit FM reported.Rev. Kenyi said it was important for the community to develop their own diocese and urged the people to promote the spirit of donating generously not only to church activities but other development projects as well.
The Kuku community Chairperson, Loburi Alex William, called on members to promote unity with the local communities in Yei, be exemplary in behaviour, work hard to develop their families and exercise their responsibility as citizens by supporting government programmes.
Bishop Hillary Adeba Luate of the Episcopal Church of Sudan Yei diocese presided the fundraising ceremony that was attended by the ECS primate, Archbishop Daniel Deng of Juba.
The Romogi cathedral building was put up with metallic poles and roofed with the support from Samaritan Purse, a Christian International non- government organization. Now the community wants to raise money for the brick walls.
