The Catholic Bishop of Rumbek told hundreds of faithful who took part in the celebration of Palm Sunday that the gathering was not a political rally.

This year’s Palm Sunday celebration took place against the background of political campaigning.

Bishop Caesar Mazzolari said Christians have already a leader, that is, Jesus Christ, a man who is not interested in earthly power, Good News Radio reported.

Bishop Mazzolari added that Christians recognize and try to grow in their loyalty to Christ, the King of all.

Bishop Mazzolari said that the waving of palms was a symbol of allegiance to Christ.

He invited all Christians to journey with Jesus to Jerusalem and experience the self-giving sacrifice of Jesus throughout the holy week.

At the end of the Mass, the bishop of Rumbek urged the faithful to pray for peace between now and the elections day.

He asked the faithful to take up the responsibility to be peacemakers.
