The Sudanese ruling party is divided about its relationship with South Sudan and hawks are trying to sabotage the presidential summit taking place in the Ethiopian capital.
South Sudan accused Sudan of parachuting weapons to rebel forces operating in Jonglei State one day before Salva Kiir Mayardit and Omar Al Bashir met in Addis Ababa to conclude a comprehensive deal on post independence issues. The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) said peacekeepers saw a white plane dropping packages over Pibor.
Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the press on Tuesday that the National Congress Party is divided and Vice President Osman Taha was sidelined.
Dr Barnaba said the Government of South Sudan was very disappointed with the intensions of Khartoum.
He said the Government lodged a protest with the UN Security Council against Sudan for violating South Sudan’s territory and arming a rebel group.
Dr Barnaba said a group within the NCP is trying to disrupt investment in the key states of Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile in oil and other industries through instability.
He added that the Pibor incident will not put the current presidential talks at risk and South Sudan will not be drawn to war by those who believe that the instability in South Sudan brings security to the Sudan.
