Human rights staff received training on administration of justice to foster better monitoring on abuses in the country.

Oliro Omara is a consultant from the Office of High Commission of Human Rights. He said the three-day the training targets human rights staff and civil society members on the role of police, judges and prisons in the administration of justice, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said it was important to train the two groups because they are normally engaged in monitoring the administration of justice in the country.

Mr Omara said the trainees also learned about the rights of the victims of crime who are treated as witnesses and tend to be neglected.

Mr Omara said at the end of the training the participants should be able to know the issues involving the administration of justice and apply them in their monitoring actins.

He added that similar training was given to police and prison officers.

The training was done in partnership with the UNMISS Human Rights Division and the UNDP Rule of Law Division.
