Mass agricultural production can be achieved through support to local farmers in all the five Payams of Yei River County.

This was the key message of Commissioner for agriculture, Edimon Gogo, to MPs representing Yei at the state assembly during Thursday’s meeting to discuss challenges faced by farmers in the region, Radio Easter reported.

He told MPs that industrial farming increases food security, employment and economic growth.

Mr Gogo said farmers faced numerous challenges including bad feeder roads limiting access to markets.

State MP Daniel Lokoroto called on the population to take advantage of fertile soil and good rains to produce more food.

He said problems with seeds and tools should be resolved.

On Wednesday, the County distributed banana shoots in Lasu Payam to encourage local farmers to produce more fruit.
