Journalists have been urged to promote mother and child health awareness through radio programs to reduce mortality rates in the country.
BBC Media Action Journalism Trainer Chris Opoka said this Thursday at the conclusion of an eight-day training on Mother and Child Health at Radio Emmanuel in Torit.Mr Opoka said journalists can use radio programs to pass health messages to a vast population who cannot easily access information through other means.
He called on the journalist to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired from the training to address issues that result to the deaths of mothers and children.
Mr Opoka explained that mother and child health programs aim at enlightening the community on risk factors leading to the deaths of mothers and babies during and after birth.
He admitted that positive changes in behaviour always take time.
Mother and Child Health Program is a radio magazine being implemented in the eight Catholic Radio Network stations in South Sudan by BBC Media Action.
