The Catholic Diocese of Torit chose Ikwotos to commemorate the International Day of Peace.
September 21 is also the feast of Saint Mathew, the patron Saint of Ikwotos parish.John Opi is the diocesan Justice and Peace Coordinator and the parish priest at St. Mathew Parish in Ikwotos.
He told Radio Emmanuel that cattle keepers were invited to attend the International Day of Peace celebration at St Mathew’s parish to listen to peace messages.
A representative of the cattle keepers was invited to give their views on peace and how they can contribute to make it happen.
Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek of Torit said in his message that “without peace, even the celebration of peace could be difficult.”
The Catholic Diocese of Torit marked the International Day of Peace under the theme “Promote Peaceful Co-existence for Development.”
In 2002, the United Nations General Assembly officially declared Sept 21 as permanent day for the International Day of Peace.
