The UN Women agency (UNIFEM) is calling both women and men in the Sudan to vote for female candidates in the general elections that take place within two weeks.UN Development Funds for Women Gender and Elections adviser Nemata Majeks Walker told the press that for long time women all over the world saw their rights being denied and are longing to be free.

Ms. Majeks added that some cultural barriers prevented women to participate actively in politics although they represent 52 percent of the population.

Ms. Majeks said since women are mothers and caretakers they will make good and responsible leaders in the society.

She added that the country will be healed only when women are involved actively in politics.

Today UNIFEM in collaboration with the Catholic University of the Sudan held a sensitization workshop in Juba for all students to mobilize female students and encourage them to learn about their rights in politics and their participation in the upcoming elections.
