The executive director of the Commissioner’s office in Tonj South County said the practice of wrestling was stopped in Peace Square.

Augustine Akoc told Don Bosco FM that the County Commissioner stopped wrestling contest for security reasons.

He explained that there was no insurance for youths injured or killed while wrestling and their people could take start revenge actions.

The practice of wrestling came to Tonj from the Atuot people of Yirol.

Mr Akoc said Bongo, Jur, Dinka, Balanda and other communities were allowed to perform their traditional dances in Freedom Square.

Mr Akoc said the commissioner’s decision to ban wrestling will be presented to the traditional chiefs in an upcoming meeting.
