The celebration of the Eucharist is a living encounter with Jesus and not a mere ritual.
This was said by Bishop Rudolf Deng Majak of Wau at Thursday mass opening the second day of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference plenary assembly. He said Jesus’ presence in the Eucharistic bread was as effective as he was 2,000 years ago.
Bishop Deng said the Eucharist motivates and energizes pastoral agents to carry on with their work despite of difficulties.
The bishop of Wau said that many very good church personnel left active ministry because they were unable to cope with the demands of daily life.
He said priests and other pastoral agents should not take themselves too seriously but rely in the Lord without whom there is no progress.
Bishop Rudolf recalled that the central topic at the bishops’ assembly was the formation of future priests and the preparations needed to resume the theology course in Juba.
