The Police called on the Muslim community in South Sudan to remain calm and respect the law avoiding illegal protests against a defamatory film posted on the internet.

Police spokesperson James Monday Enocka told Bakhita Radio that if the Muslim community wanted to organize a public protest, first they had to apply for a permit from the ministry of interior.

He said the ministry so far did not get any request, although there were rumours that the Muslims wanted to protest in Juba against a video making fun of Prophet Muhammad.

The officer said security personnel are on alert to safeguard public order.

Mr Monday said the Muslims in South Sudan are a law abiding community and they always behave in a lawful manner.

He added that the Government of South Sudan condemned the defamatory video.

Mr Monday said the police forces were doing their best to keep security in Juba.

He said security personnel were deployed around the capital to remove tinted filters from car windows to reduce crimes.
