The number of new arrivals at the Yida refugee site in Unity State reached 62,000, the new arrivals increased fourfold per week and humanitarian agencies have to resort to drop food from planes to reach the hungry people.

UNOCHA said in its South Sudan Humanitarian Bulletin that refugee partners are preparing for food airdrops, which should start shortly.

About 1,000 members of the refugee community have been mobilized to work during the airdrops.

The preliminary plan is to have two drops per day, six days a week, for the next two months.

Meanwhile, the airlift of plastic sheeting, soap and other household items resumed.

Distributions of plastic sheets have also begun for new arrivals and recently identified vulnerable families.

South Sudan is hosting 170,000 Sudanese refugees on seven locations in Unity and Upper Nile states.
