The number of hungry civilians in the Nuba Mountains mainly elderly and children have reduced gathering around NGOs office premises asking for food and help.

Three months ago hundreds of people used to flock into the NGOs’ offices seeking for food assistance as hunger intensified.

The Head of Kumbur Payam in Heiban County, Mr. Kuku Barnaba Kuku told the Voice of Hope radio that the situation was uncontrollable and horrible during the last two months of serious hunger.

He added that right now some people are benefiting from new crops and they have started eating maize.

Mr. Bernaba strongly appealed to the people to plan ahead and economize the newly products for the coming year.

Few months ago a number of children and elderly people in Nuba Mountains were reported dead due to malnutrition and diseases resulting from intensive hunger, as Khartoum Government refused to allow humanitarian aid in to the region.
