POLICE DISPERSE DOLLAR SCRAMBLERS IN JUBA

Police and the CID personnel have shot two rounds of bullets into the air today around midday in Juba Town Market.

The shooting into air was to disperse locals who tried to force their way into South Sudan Commercial Bank Cash office for dollars.

Wek Chok Tong Wek is in charge of the cash office, a branch of the South Sudan Commercial Bank where people who applied for dollars get paid.

He looked nervous while speaking to CRN.

Mr Chok said they told their customers to stand on queue so that they can receive their money in orderly manner, instead they disorganized themselves, entered by force and broke bank glass shutter door.

Mr Cok added the CID shot in the air to disperse the customers.

Customer Rebecca said the incident was caused when all the men entered into the office by force.

She explained that last week, some applicants left behind their papers because they did not received money and so they were trying know what happened to their applications.

Anonymous eyewitness explained that one person whose name was not in the list entered the office by force and when the officials refused to serve him, he pointed his pistol on them.

He added that the police called the CID personnel to take him away and that they shot in the air because some customers were trying to attack them.

The cash office was closed after the chaotic opening.
