South Sudan Prison Services is stepping up effort to establish its own agricultural farm and industries as a means of rehabilitating the prisoners in South Sudan.
The focus of the project is to achieve a safe, secure and humane accountable prison system that respects the human rights of detainees, for peace and security of the people of South Sudan.General Abel Makoi Wol, National Director General of Police Service said his office wants to embark Agricultural farms and Industries because the national Council of ministers agreed to change the name of Prison Service to Correctional Services, Bakhita Radio reported.
Mr Makoi explained that no correctional services could take place without producing its own food.
Mr Makoi said Prison Services needs rehabilitation in order to make use of the huge number of inmates in prisons.
He added that the big number of prisoners reduces the labour force of South Sudan because they stay idol in prisons.
There are more than 6,500 inmates in various prisons of South Sudan and only over 4,000 are convicted.
Human Rights group criticized South Sudan Rights Records and especially recent execution of two prisoners on death row.
