Openness in all the affairs of the country is the only way to prevent corruption in South Sudan.

The Advisor of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment, Bur Deng Marial said the people of South Sudan have the right to know how resources are managed and where the money goes.

He said the ministry and the government are fully committed to openness, honesty and full disclosure of affairs for public scrutiny.

Mr Deng added that the government is also committed to implement accountability and transparency at the highest standard.

He called on the civil society organizations to fight corruption in the oil and mining sectors.

The Advisor said there is a need to develop the civil society organizations in order to play a key role in initiating extractive industry transparency.

The advisor was representing the Minister during the opening session of the conference of harnessing natural and public resources for a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan, under the theme “what can we learn from others?”.
