A missionary of Mary Mother of the Church and a Principal of Comboni Primary school in Yirol, Catholic Diocese of Rumbek has urged the communities in Lakes State to plant trees as wind breakers.
Sister Beatrice Arinaitwe made the statement after a devastating wind blew off the roofs of the classrooms in her School in April which stopped learning process for two weeks.She told Good News Radio over the weekend that destructive wind can only be controlled by planting trees which can act as wind breakers.
Sr Arinaitwe explained that trees have numerous benefits including controlling soil erosion, source of fuel, oxygen, and construction materials besides providing shelter.
Sr Arinaitwe who is now trying to overcome the aftermath said school administration is embarking on the renovation of the school.
She expressed confidence in giving excellence performance despite a late beginning of the academic year.
The Nun added that with the help of her competent teachers they would maintain the high standard of the school.
She said the Comboni Primary School in Yirol managed to produce two best students in the last year’s Primary eight exams.
The natural calamity destroyed all the structures in the entire compound leaving only the walls standing
