The Council of Ministers in Eastern Equatoria State has branded the auctioning of some government cars as illegal.
On Wednesday, a self-formed committee put under the hammer a number of official cars without a legal mandate to execute the auction.State information minister Felix Otuduha Siro told Radio Emmanuel that the Council of Ministers considered the auction illegal and unacceptable.
He said the Governor did not issue a decree with the terms of reference and the names of the committee mandated to auction the vehicles.
Mr Otuduha explained that there was only a proposal for the committee’s composition but no nominations.
He added that the illegal committee auctioned the cars illegally.
Mr Otuduha said there was a public outcry accusing the state government of looting cars.
He explained that the committee acted illegally because the Governor did not issue a decree with terms of reference to auction the cars and the names of the committee members.
The minister explained that the Cabinet intended to auction only some used Balloon models but the illegal committee instead included other vehicles from ministries and counties.
