The Central Equatoria State Secretariat for Conflict Mitigation and Stabilization Wednesday sat down with other stakeholders to discuss the second peace forum and identify ways to reduce conflicts among communities.

State Coordinator for Conflict Mitigation and Stabilization Khemis Benz said there is need to clear out the remnants of conflict in order to build a stable environment conducive for development, Bakhita Radio reported.

He added that the wealth and natural resources of the country cannot be used well without peace among the communities.

Mr Benz said it was very important for the citizens in Central Equatoria and in the republic to come together as one nation with a vision of unity for the future.

He added that conflict mitigation and stabilization plans play an important role in tackling high levels of insecurity, reducing conflict and promoting peace in the state.

Mr Benz said Central Equatoria State has seven historical security issues that include land disputes, criminality and possession of small arms, borders disputes, narcotic and alcohol abuse, child and women abduction, conflict between pastoral and agricultural communities and youth unemployment.

The formation of a state boundary committee in 2007 to identify the border conflict areas, was an attempt to resolves these issues.

Mr Benz lamented that the committee’s findings were not implemented up to now.
