The second round of polio vaccination is expected to take place between March 29 and 31 across south Sudan.

Addressing the press this morning in Juba, Anthony Laku Stephen, EPI director in the GoSS ministry of health said the campaign is crucial since the spread of the polio virus has been contained since June last year in South Sudan.

Mr. Alku asked parents to collaborate with vaccinators in order to have a good anti-polio campaign before the rains start.

Dr Laku added that vaccines are transported by air in Jonglei, Upper Nile and Warrap states due to bad roads.

Dr. Romans Mkerenga called for continued support from parents and guardians to ensure that polio virus is kicked out of the region.

Five million children under five years of age are targeted for the second round of polio vaccination.
