The administrator of Rejaf Payam in Juba County has detached himself from land a demarcation conflict involving residents of Gumbo, Gumbo Development Committee and the Tokiman community.

The move comes after residents of Gumbo complained to the payam authorities about the absence of their names from a list of people who were allocated new plots in the area.

Rejaf Payam Director Michael Francis told Bakhita Radio in Gumbo that the process of registration and demarcation started before he was appointed to his job.

He explained that Tokiman community and Gumbo Development Community were responsible for the registration and demarcation of Gumbo residential area.

The Payam director called on Gumbo residents whose names were not in the list to address their grievances with the local development committee.

Mr Francis said he has given one month to both Tokiman and Gumbo committees to iron out the residents’ grievances before issuing local administrative orders.

He said any decision taken would not be reversed because it is carried in conformity with laws, rules and regulations.

The land dispute occurred apparently after many names of Gumbo locals registered in 2007 for plot allocation did not appear on token lists.

Gumbo Development Committee promised to resolve the complaints in consultation with Tokiman Development Committee.
