The University of Bahr El Ghazal administration has proposed to start the new academic year in April.

The decision came shortly after a career guidance conference conducted by the College of Economics and Social Studies.

Isaac Cuir Riak told Voice of Hope that the Deans Board meeting proposed on Wednesday to the Senate to open the next academic year in April.

He said weather conditions in Wau in the months of January to March are not very conducive and students would risk endemic meningitis and other health threats.

Dr Cuir recalled that the British knew South Sudan well and opened schools after the end of the dry season.

The College of Economic and Social Studies Thursday morning organized a career guidance conference for second year students preparing to start specialization studies.

Dr Cuir called on more than 500 second year students at the University’s new hall to enrol in subjects that they are comfortable with and not on what they would like.

He explained that students have to match ambition with ability in order to be successful.

Dr Cuir added that students are required to get at least a B in a number of subjects to pass.

Next week, the University of Bahr El Ghazal starts the end-of-year exams that should finish by September 14 before they break for their long vacation until April 2013.
