Traditional chiefs need to be trained in the laws of the country in order to know and fulfil their roles.

Central Equatoria minister for Local Government Albert Pitya Redentore said the Government should train the traditional leaders in the ten states of South Sudan, Radio Easter reported.

He added that all states are vulnerable and chiefs have to understand the Local Government and Land acts in order to perform their duties.

Mr Pitya said when local leaders are trained they will be able to know their rights, mandates and responsibilities.

The minister made these statements Monday during the swearing-in ceremony of 35 traditional leaders in Yei.
