Sudan Africa National Union (SANU) party launched its campaigns in Torit town for the upcoming elections with call on the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement to lead the South to full freedom.
Speaking during the launch of his party’s campaign on Wednesday at Torit Freedom Squire, Eastern Equatoria SANU chairman, Paul Lokang, praised the SPLM for bringing peace and for reviving political parties.Mr. Lokang urged the SPLM to lead the way to the 2011 referendum.
Mr. Lokang, who runs for Magwi constituenc in the SANU ticket, praised the example of Fr. Saturnino Ohure, Fr. Leopold Anywar and Dr. John Garang who belonged to the party and gave their lives for the liberation of south Sudan.
Eastern Equatoria caretaker governor, Johnson Juma Okot, speaking at the launch, acknowledged the contributions of SANU as the oldest party in the struggle.
Mr. Okot, however, said that SPLM started under the leadership of late Dr. Garang with new ideology while some of the living SANU members defected to the Khartoum government.
