A cluster of local entrepreneurs from Panyikwara payam of Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria, launched their line of products made from lulu seeds and other farming products in Abara Boma.

Several lulu products, sweet potatoes, maize, groundnuts and honey were among the exhibits during the launch in Abara on Friday.

Ojok Otim Joseph is a member of the lulu group. He told Bakhita Radio in Abara that his group produces cooking oil, soap and cosmetics from the seeds of local lulu trees.

He said the lulu group started working in 2009 but production began later after the group learned how to process the seeds and bought some machines.

Mr Ojok said the group needs some support to increase production, including a grinding machine, new soap moulds, tanks to store rain water and a borehole.

The project was funded by UNICEF, implemented by PLAN International and facilitated by Small Medium Business Capacity Building.

Lulu is a wild tree growing in various forests of South Sudan including Central Equatoria, Easter Equatoria, Jonglei and Lakes states.

The seeds, very rich in oil, are good to eat and can be used for many purposes including food and cosmetics.
