Western Equatoria State farmers are facing big problems to transport and store abundant crops.
Giovanna Genesa Dasta owns a farm in Bazumburu area, some ten miles away from Yambio. She told Anisa FM that this year’s harvest was very good. She said out of one fedan of groundnuts she harvested 80 bags of 100 kilos each.
She complained that monkeys destroyed most of the maize crop.
Ms Genesa said she and other farmers are facing the big challenges to transport and store the harvest.
She explained that transport fees and bags are very expensive.
Ms Genesa said she does not know how to store the 80 bags she filled with groundnuts.
She explained that because there is a big demand on bags the price jumped from two to five pounds in Yambio.
Ms Genesa advised framers to work in groups in order to get support from partners in order to get better crops.
