The national government has started sharing tax revenue with the states honouring the agreement on centralized tax collection signed in May.
Last week, Central Equatoria MP Jacob Kwiyansuk lamented that since the tax centralization policy was put in place no cash was transferred to the state account living it in the red.National Finance Deputy Minister Marial Awou Yol told the press Tuesday in Juba that the ministry started sharing taxes money with the state governments in July after some delay.
He explained that new systems always bring problems but the central government remained committed to the agreement it signed with the state governments in May about centralized tax collection and sharing of revenue.
Dr Awou said the central government remained committed to the tax reform and streamline revenue collection even after oil production resumed.
He added that the tax rates would be reviewed in the next national budget.
