An increasing number of hungry people along with their children are flocking around office premises looking for food as an agriculture official strongly warns of worse days if no foreign aid reaches Nuba Mountains.

Kumbur agriculture official Andrew Nasir said people come around the offices that there are open hoping they find something to eat.

The agriculture office is situated at the Youth Centre at Kumbur Payam in the Nuba Mountains.

People think because the place is a community based organization they may find something to eat.

Mr Nasir said they had to close the office many times because people just sat in waiting for food.

He said many people are suffering from hunger and next year the situation will get worse.

Mr Nasir added that he made a survey and found that this year’s crops are poor because there is no enough rain and people are too weak to work in the fields.

It is not clear whether the people of Nuba Mountains will overcome hunger after 14 months of struggle against the central government.

SPLM-North and the Khartoum Government have agreed to provide food aid to the war zones but so far no any step taken.
