A large congregation of Christians turned up for celebration of the feast of Assumption on Wednesday at Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Torit town.
Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Torit, Johnson Akio Mutek expressed gratitude to the Christians for their response and commitment to Catholic faith to observe the feast of Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.He said he did not expect large population turn-up and had planned for only one hour mass such that people return to work.
The Bishop stressed that the Bishops’ Conference will negotiate with the government for recognition of Christian feast to be observed as Holy days.
He said as a Christian Country, religious feasts falling on week days should not be pushed to other days.
The feast of Assumption coincided with the consecration of Johnson Akio Mutek as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Torit.
