Floods have cut off the road between Yirol and Rumbek, rendering vehicle transport between these two major towns of Lakes State impassable.

The floods broke river banks, cut off the road between Payii River and Aluakluak causing heavy financial loses to traders after trucks carrying goods from neighbouring countries stranded and others overturned, Radio Good News reported.

One Kenyan truck driver who identified himself as Kevin said on Tuesday that he had lost goods worth one hundred thousand South Sudanese pounds.

Speaking at the site of the overturned and stranded trucks, Kevin said that sugar, milk powder and soda are some of the merchandise lost.

He warned that the road situation will worsen as the rains continue to pour, calling on the relevant authorities to speed up repairing the road.

Yirol-Rumbek road connects the five States of Lakes, Warrap, Unity State, Western and Northen Barh el Ghazal to Juba.
