Cattle herders have attacked Fire Brigade officers at the airstrip in Tonj South County this week.
Fire Brigade officer Mr. Deng Acuil said the attack came after the officers stopped the herders from grazing their cattle at the airstrip, Radio Don Bosco reported. He said the reason of preventing cattle from grazing at the airstrip is to protect the animals and the landing planes from damages and loss of lives.
Mr. Acuil cited the incident that happened in 2009 when plane crushed in the airstrip of Tonj Town killing one pregnant lady.
He said the attackers are civilians including women who are in the army, but that the case is reported to the court.
He urged the cattle keepers to look for alternative grazing land to herd their cattle adding that anyone grazing cattle at the airstrip will be taken to custody.
Mr. Acuil said the airstrip is operational now since Wau airport closed down and that the airstrip lacks fence for control and other needs.
The attack left office doors broken with no injuries reported from both sides.
