The Vatican has given the green light to move St Paul’s Seminary of Theology from Khartoum to Juba following consultations with South Sudanese and Sudanese bishops.
Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba broke the news upon his arrival from Rome Wednesday afternoon.Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako, Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro and Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe were in the Vatican for consultations over the major seminaries of philosophy and theology following the independence of South Sudan.
The Vatican sent the bishop of Marsabit, in Kenya, to check on the major seminaries in Juba and Khartoum earlier in the year.
Archbishop Lukudu, who holds the portfolio of the seminaries in the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, said the section of theology is being transferred from Khartoum to Juba.
He added that the section of philosophy will be suspended for two years while buildings are ready at St Paul Major Seminary in Munuki-Juba to accommodate the seminarians.
Archbishop Lukudu said each bishop will decide what to do with his seminarians in the philosophy section in the coming two years.
St Paul’s Major Seminary comes to its original place in Munuki-Juba.
It was transferred to Khartoum in the eighties due to the civil war.
