A joint team of UN partners visited Nagero County of Western Equatoria to assess the basic needs of the community and key priorities that require immediate action.

Nagero County press secretary Justin Gunde told Anisa FM that the major sectors that call for urgent action are health, education, water, communication and capacity building.

Nagero county Commissioner Minialla Joseph expressed concern about capacity building in both health and education, because the two sectors are poorly financed and lack experienced staff.

Nagero county health department has been undergoing several challenges from inadequate and undertrained staff to lack of proper infrastructure.

UNPD, the United Nations Development Program, promised to construct a new maternity ward in Nagero Health Centre in October to reduce high mortality of mothers and babies at birth and improve health facilities in the county.
