The Students of University of Juba have disagreed with the decision of Higher Education Minister asking them to pay tuition fees.
Minister Peter Adwok Nyaba last week said higher education is very expensive and that government is going to scrub paying for students’ tuition fees and feeding due to austerity measures. Some of the students in the hostel expressed various views over the decision of the minister, Radio Bakhita reported.
Gadong Thua said the decision of the minister is not good because it will affect many students in the university.
He said the tuition fees are too expensive that the students cannot afford.
Mr Thua asked that if the students cannot afford to rent, how they will pay tuition fees.
Simon Mathong said the decision taken by the Higher Education Minister does not solve the students’ problem in the university.
He said it will make no different even if the government is going to make it on loan basis
Mr Mathong said the students studying at the University of Juba are only those who have no money to pay for tuition in East Africa.
The students called on the government to be merciful with the students who have no parents to pay for their tuition fees.
