LAKES STATE YOUTH UNION ELECT NEW CHAIRPERSON

Lakes State’s Youth Union on Saturday has elected Apuk Deng Reech from Rumbek East County as its new Chairperson.

Mr. Deng got 22 votes, beating the incumbent Manyiel Dut Kok from Rumbek Center County by 5 votes.

The new Chairman will be in office for two years according to the Union’s constitution.

Lakes State Youth Union’s Independent Electoral Committee, Abraham Ayiec Gop said that the election was successful, Radio Good News reported.

Ayiec said that the process experienced financial constraints, Cueibet County insecurity interruption and delayed submission of names of the delegates from Counties.

He expressed confidence on fair election process in line with the expectations of the youth and the entire community of Lakes State.

Ayiec added that he was impressed by the youth’s conduct during the election.

The newly elected Chairman Deng Reech outlined his office priorities and pointed out the Union will witness a more organized youth in State.

He urged young people in State to remain calm and promised to work with the State Government to deal with emerging security in the State.

Mr. Deng pledged to work closely with Government and ensure that the youth are involved in the State’s development agenda.

He calling on the youth to unite and contribute effectively to the reconstruction of the State and the new nation.

Four candidates competed in election for four hours which brought together delegates and supporters from the eight counties of Lakes State namely; Cueibet, Wulu, Yirol East, Yirol West, Aweirial, Rumbek North, Rumbek East and Rumbek Center.
