Christians and Muslims were urged to go beyond their differences and work together for the good of all human beings.

The president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, issued a message to mark the holy month of Ramadan that started last evening.

The cardinal wrote that Christians and Muslims, beyond their differences, recognise the dignity of the human person endowed with both rights and duties.

He said it is the duty of Christian and Muslim believers to help the world discover that there is both good and evil, that conscience is a sanctuary to be respected, and that cultivating the spiritual dimension makes people more available for the common good.

Cardinal Tauran concluded his message by saying that religion must never be manipulated to force people to believe what goes against their consciences.
