The Supiri Training Centre was officially inaugurated this morning in Juba.

Supiri Training Centre is a government facility that offer training for teachers, youth trainings as well as adult literacy among others.

Addressing the gathering, the Head of South Sudan, Department for International Development (DFID), Mark Mallalieu congratulated the national and state ministries of education for their cooperation with the Donors and implementers to realize the projects goal, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said the United Kingdom Assistance for International Development (UKAID) will continue to support governments’ effort to prioritize quality education in the country.

Mr Mark added that UK is committed to supporting primary and secondary education in the new nation.

Mr Mark revealed that UKAID will support 240,000 children in primary schools, and 7,000 children, including 3,000 girls in secondary schools across the country in the next four years.

He added that UK is currently helping to develop a national textbook policy for South Sudan and will print and distribute over 9 million textbooks to all children in schools.

Supiri Training Centre is constructed with funding from the UK and Norwegian Foreign Ministry and implemented by Norwegian Refugees Council (NRC).

The centre is a model for provision of educational opportunities and contributes to improve literacy, numeracy, vocational and language skills among adults.

It also offers an intensive English course for Arabic-speaking teachers.
