JUR RIVER COMMISSIONER OUTLAWS SHOOTING DURING INDEPEDEMCE DAY

The commissioner of Jur River County in Western Bahr El-Ghazal State has forbidden residents to shoot guns to celebrate Independence Day in order to avoid unwanted casualties.

Akol Majok Awar, who is also the state chairperson for the security committee for the anniversary festival, told Voice of Hope that security is the top concern during the celebrations.

He said anyone who shoots during Independence Day under the pretext of celebration will be held responsible.

Mr Majok recalled that last year one person was killed by a stray bullet during the celebration of independence.

He encouraged people to express their joy through dancing and being together with their children with candles until the morning breaks.

Mr Majok said security has never been a big problem in Jur River County for the past year with exception of few alcohol-related crimes.

He added that he stop the sale of dangerous liquors and impounded them from many traders and limited bars operations the county to deal with the alcohol problem.

The Commissioner of Jur River County called on the entire population to commemorate Independent Day peacefully.
