Residents of Hiyala in Eastern Equatoria have complained to their representatives in state and national assemblies about the lack of basic facilities in the area.
People voiced their grievances to the legislators on Saturday during a constituency dialogue with MPs representing the area, Radio Emmanuel reported.Hunger, water, security, education and poor roads ate at the top on the list of grievances.
Hiyala residents charged political representatives of failing to address issues of cattle raiding and improvement of education institutions in the area.
MP Martin Okeruk, who represents Torit Constituency at the National Legislative Assembly, accepted the concerns of electorates.
He told people that the national government only comes in to fill gaps left by the state government, not to take the lead in addressing issues directly at the grassroots.
Mr Okeruk said funds that the national government allocated for constituency development were not enough to carter for all ocal needs.
He added that the amount is used according to the needs of the voters who come up with plans of priorities in the area.
Mr Okeruk encouraged all the citizens to cultivate their fields in order to produce food for the nation instead of waiting for food relief.
He asked people to pray to God to provide sufficient rain for effective cultivation rather than blaming individuals over rains failure.
