UNMISS, the United Nation Mission in South Sudan, has today presented its first yearly report to civil society organizations and media houses.
The mission was established in July last year taking over from UNMIS.UNMISS coordinator in Central Equatoria Mamane Moussa said the mission had been helping South Sudan in various ways including training, logistics and protection of civilians.
He explained that UNMISS needs assistance from the locals and civil society organizations including the Government in order to operate effectively.
Mr Moussa admitted that UNMISS has not done enough to sensitize the people of South Sudan about its mandate.
He said the civil society organizations did not help the mission identify areas of priorities.
Mr Moussa advised civil society organizations to be strong and hold the Government and public institutions accountable.
Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) yesterday criticized UNMISS for not sensitizing the citizens about their mandate.
The Government of South Sudan said he does not want UNMISS to continue operating under Chapter Seven of the UN Charter because the country is not at war anymore.
