Rumbek National Secondary School Head Teacher has raised alarm over violent inter ethnic clashes among some students.
Peter Ghum Panther told Good News Radio that a conflict involving some students from Rumbek East County has undermined peace at the school. He said chaos began on Thursday last week.
The conflict was triggered by a fight outside the school that wounded one student.
Mr Ghum revealed that the Ministry of General Education in Lakes State advised him not to close the school.
He said some students have been arrested in connection with the clashes.
The matter is currently under police investigation and disciplinary action will be taken against those behind the chaos, including dismissal.
Student leader Amat Eli Makoi called on parents and the Government to intervene.
He said on Monday morning police officers arrested some students who were in the dormitories instead of attending classes.
Mr Eli expressed concern that the refusal of some students to respect rules and regulations is discouraging teachers.
Rumbek National Secondary School, which was in the news on Saturday last week for emerging victorious in the March 2012 Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education, reopened on January 9 after nearly five months of closure.
