People living with disabilities have joined the cleaning exercise in Wau ahead of independence Day.

Arkangelo Abini Joseph, assistant Chairperson for South Sudan People with Disability Society in Western Bahr El Ghazal, said the participation in the cleaning campaign shows their commitment in protecting the new nation, Voice of Hope reported.

He stated that the cleaning operation targets the area around the office allocated for the disabled and some main roads in town to celebrate the anniversary in a clean and tidy environment.

Mr Abini noted that people with disabilities need more attention in South Sudan.

He added that the awareness day which they conducted on June 15 for all disabled in the state received a negative turn up from the state officials and the general public.

Mr Abini advised people with disabilities not to give up but to be creative in order to earn a living.

The office of South Sudan People with Disability Society in Western Bahr El Ghazal is registering all the people with disabilities in the state and giving walking aids like white cane sticks, tricycles and wheelchairs.
