A roundtable meeting has recommended ten resolutions to deepen decentralization in South Sudan through the creation of a body or ministry to coordinate work at national level.
The resolutions named “Juba Roundtable Resolutions for Deepening of Implementation of Decentralization” came after a three-day meeting on the status of decentralization and intergovernmental linkages.Western Equatoria Acting Local Government Minister Clement Juma Mbugoniwia read the resolutions.
He said the document is a statement designed to support government’s efforts to make a framework policy workable in all three levels of governance.
Resolution one calls for the establishment of a national decentralization policy strategy to guide its implementation.
Resolution three calls for the establishment of a national body or ministry responsible for decentralization and local government to coordinate and monitor its implementation and local development in the country.
Resolution four calls for demarcation of clear boundaries for current counties in order to facilitate planning, budgeting and equitable services delivery.
Resolution five calls for the development of communication strategy and activities to promote communities ownership of the decentralization process.
Mr Juma stressed that these steps will strengthen states and counties feeling part of the decentralization process.
