South Sudan’s corruption could be a reason for Israel to send home some 700 South Sudanese refugees who sought protection in that Middle East country.

Over 300 returnees had already arrived Juba from Israel amid claims that they were harassed by the Israeli authorities.

National Deputy Minister for International Cooperation Ellias Nyamlel said the Israeli government considers most of the South Sudanese in Israel as illegal migrants, Bakhita Radio reported.

He added that since the South Sudanese are illegal in Israel they are no more entitled to stay in the country.

Prof Nyamlel said the ministry does not know Israeli migration laws used to deport the South Sudanese and if the country signed refugee convention.

He commented that Israel could be more lenient with refugees.

John Jada said the image South Sudan gives of itself is that the country is not that poor because the ruling class was able to waste more than four billion US Dollars.

He commented if the country has that money to lose South Sudanese have no reason to be refugees.

Mr Jada said corruption deforming the image of South Sudan abroad.

He added that the deportation of refugees from Israel could be a kind of reaction from the international community because the country is not being run well by the Government.

Many South Sudanese after the independence were repatriated back home from their various hosting countries and more are still to return.
