At least three children have died of malnutrition at a local hospital in Nuba Mountains in July.

A doctor said such children often reach the hospital too late to save them.

He explained that they often contract other diseases like TB, malaria and diarrhoea which weaken them even further and kills them.

One of the most severe cases in the children ward is Mariam, a five year old girl who only weights ten kilograms.

The doctor explained that the girl had to be fed initially through the nose but that she can take some food now herself.

The doctor blamed the ongoing war for the rise in malnutrition among Nuba people.

He said malnutrition this year is higher than last year when the war broke out.
