The students’ leader in the University of Juba has rejected the dissolution of the association calling on undergraduates not to respect the order.
On Thursday, Vice Chancellor Aggrey Abate told reporters in Juba that his administration decided to ban the Juba University Students Union (JUSU) over alleged irresponsibility in handing students’ affairs during ethnic clashes in March.JUSU leader Ajang Ajang Lino told Bakhita Radio that the Union is going to open a court case against the University administration for undermining the Union’s activities.
He denied that the Dean of the Students had the power dissolve the Union, adding that a peaceful transfer of power through elections is the only way forward.
Mr Ajang said the decision to close university hostels was baseless since the unrest was not related to boarding facilities.
He said the authorities should notify the students six months before the University opened.
Mr Ajang called on the students in the hostels to remain there till the university reopens.
About 400 students are still accommodated at the university hostels after the higher learning institution was closed at the end of March due to inter-ethnic clashes.
Vice Chancellor Abate announced that the University of Juba would reopen two weeks after students vacated hostels.
The boarding facilities will be used for hall and offices.
